The Ministerial Consultive Committee on Labor is discussing the possibility of increasing the minimum age for contribution to the Employees Provident Fund from 14 years to 16 years passed by the Labor Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

An Extraordinary Gazette Notification has been issued in this regard and is to be submitted to Parliament for approval.

The Consultative Committee has also considered the Annual Report of the National Institute of Labor Studies for the year 2018.

The Committee also noted the progress made in recent years by the Institute of Labor Studies, which conducts awareness training programs on labor laws and regulations.

The Minister of Labor instructed the officials to expedite the process of obtaining NVQ qualification for these courses and to develop all the courses in a more systematic manner.
