Covid-19 vaccine not mandatory : Lalith Weeratunga


Advisor to the President, Lalith Weeratunge notes that the Covid 19 vaccine will not be mandatory for all citizen

He emphasized that no person would be vaccinated without their consent, adding that everyone who gets vaccinated will be expected to sign a document stating they are volunteering to do so.

The names for the vaccination drive will be taken from the electoral list, and those whose names are not in the priority lists are expected to contact the authorities to enter their names. The Covid 19 vaccine drive is expected to begin on 29 January after being delivered to the relevant MOH division around the country tomorrow (28).

Vaccines will be administered in several stages. The vaccination priority list as follows;

Frontline workers : 150,000

Police/Tri-forces/Airport staff/Regional Covid-center workers : 115,000 - 120,000

Persons who are over the age of 60 years - 3,400,000

The vaccine will not be administered to about 35% of the population, which consists of persons who are under 20 years of age and pregnant mothers. The Sri Lankan Government will not be charging anyone for vaccination for the next 8-9 months according to Presidential adviser Lalith Weeratunga.
